The 22nd Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival is 9 to 11 October 2026 at the Yuanshan Expo Park corridor plaza, Zhongshan. Taipei Travel lists those dates. The Department of Economic Development's commercial office is the organiser. This year's title is King of Taiwan, a nationwide cook-off, not a closed Taipei-shop exhibition. If you were planning to queue Yongkang Street that weekend, don't. The serious bowls will be under tents next to MRT Yuanshan.
What changed in the 22nd year
Up Media, working from the city press conference on 8 July 2026, is the best secondary source next to travel.taipei. Registration ran 8 July to 9 August. Fresh-food shops compete in red-braised and clear-broth. A second track is the frozen meal pack category, the line that survived Covid and then turned into an export product. North and south preliminaries were 7 and 11 September. Economic Daily reported 112 shops applied and 104 teams cleared the paperwork into those prelims. Gold, silver and bronze are decided at Yuanshan. First-time prize money: NT$200,000 total for gold winners. Judging criteria named by the city: flavour, appearance, creativity, hygiene, price.
Black-and-White Chef contestant Chung Ji-sun is the goodwill ambassador. About 60 past winners showed bowls at the July briefing. Deputy Mayor Lin used the usual city line: nearly 2,000 shop entries across the festival's history, and a push to treat beef noodle as an export category the way ramen and pho already travel. Believe the prize figure and the 104-team count. Treat the export speech as a speech.
The carnival market is the part visitors actually eat. A 5 August city notice recruited three stall types: beef noodle including packs, side goods, flavour pairings, plus a charity row. Shops needed a business registration, at least one cashless option (EasyCard Pay, LINE Pay, JKoPay and similar), a clean food-safety record, and no major violations in the past year. Promo language in that notice includes coupons and free gifts. Exact 2026 stall maps and tasting prices usually drop the week of the event. Last year's edition published an 83-stall map. Do not copy 2025 stall names onto 2026. Wait for the commercial office Facebook "我是商Ya人" and the Taipei Beef Noodle Association page.
How to eat it without wrecking lunch
Go hungry, then stop at two bowls. Red-braised and clear-broth are different soups. If you drink both to the bottom you will not taste the third stall you walked over for. Buy a pack from the frozen track if you want something that survives the MRT home. The festival is free to enter. Bowls are not. Bring a card. The city told stallholders to take cashless.
Yuanshan MRT, Red line, is the obvious station. Expo Park underground parking is 160 metres from the listed pin if you insist on a car. Do not. Double Tenth weekend is 10 to 11 October this year. Gongguan's Chill Out Festival is the same two days at the water museum and Guting riverside. Beef noodle is Zhongshan. Chill Out is Zhongzheng. Pick one neighbourhood or budget a Red-to-Green transfer and a slow afternoon. Our event page has the dates and the official travel.taipei link. The Chill Out listing is separate.
If you skip the tents and still want a shop bowl that weekend, go the day before or the Monday after. Yongkang and Lin Dong Fang lines get longer when a festival is in town, not shorter. The point of King of Taiwan is to eat shops you do not already have a loyalty to. Look for the north and south prelim logos on stall cards. That is the 104-team filter working in public.
Hours for the three public days are not on the thin travel.taipei English blurb. City festivals at the corridor plaza typically run late morning to evening. Check the Chinese calendar page and the association Facebook the week of 6 October. Rain in early October is normal. The plaza is open-air. A light jacket is more useful than a tripod.
