Flute Rhapsody is the annual concert of the Yazhuo Arts Flute Ensemble, a Taiwanese flute collective founded in 2023 that brings together professional flautists alongside advanced amateur players. The programme is built around the rare sound of a full flute choir - an ensemble of flutes ranging from the tiny piccolo to the deep contrabass flute - and this July's edition moves from classical refinement into jazz and crossover territory. Conductor Guo Lianchang, a veteran of the Paris City International Orchestra and a long-time figure in Taiwanese wind music, leads the ensemble through a setlist that pairs Anze Rozman's Aqua and Ventus, Wil Offermans' Bamburia and Raymond Guiot's Divertimento Jazz with Holst's Jupiter and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. It is a programme that shows off the flute choir's full colour range, from delicate chamber textures to full-bodied theatrical sound. The concert is held in the Eslite Performance Hall in the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, an intimate basement venue with clean acoustics that suits chamber music well.
